Oroblu Dolcevita 15 Tights

The description ticks all the right boxes, and the price is reasonable too. Have we found a new hot contender in our favourite 15 denier category? First impressions are excellent, and these tights feel smooth, light and soft. Opening them out, you can see that the sheer to the waist with legs shaped at the heel and the most lightly reinforced sandal toe.

In the panty, there are flat seams with a very narrow band of reinforcement on either side that runs into a shallow finger band. The cotton-lined gusset and flat seams should help significantly with fit and comfort, as should the very deep (5 cm) waistband.

Five sizes are available from Small through XL to Maxi, with each size adding more height and weight. We tested size IV/XL, which is Euro size 44-46. The sizing is spot on with enough stretch and strength to go beyond the suggested sizes if necessary. The fit is excellent, and the colour on the leg perfectly even.

The finish on the leg has a slight sheen, even a sparkle in direct sunlight. Far more subtle than the likes of Falke Seidenglatt, these tights will appeal to those who prefer their hosiery to be less shiny but find a matt finish unflattering. Very much on a par with Kunert Moonlight but at a lower price. If you can’t find these tights anywhere and are not widely available, the Kunert is a good alternative.

The tights live up to their billing. But they are nothing so durable as the Falke or the Kunert. Our test pair laddered late in the day, and £5 is a lot to pay for one day of wear. The Falke Seidenglatt last for months.

Oroblu Couture Luxury 40 Lurex Tights

It is over two years since we last saw any tights from the Oroblu Couture collection, far too long, considering that we rated them on par with Wolford for quality.

When we saw that this latest style incorporated Lurex in the fibres, we were unsure what to think. Lurex can make for rough hosiery that looks tacky. The first impression on opening the box was very positive; however, for 40 denier tights, these feel very light. Indeed, the feel in hand was not smooth and soft, but it was far better than we expected.

Visually things were better than anticipated too. The Lurex threads are silver on our black review sample, which gives the whole a silver-grey appearance. The Lurex fibres also looked quite OK. These tights are sheer to the waist, feature a lightly shaped heel and have a little shaping at the heel. The panty is finished with flat seams and a cotton-lined gusset. There is a small Oroblu motif on each hip.

Closer inspection reveals that although the toe is the same weight as the rest of the leg and panty, there is a run stop. Fortunately, far enough back and pale enough not to be too visible with strappy shoes. The sizing is on the generous side of accuracy, and the fit is perfect. The harshness of the Lurex fibre is only noticeable when you cross your legs, and then the sensation is not unpleasant.

Of course, Lurex is about the look, and that will indeed divide opinions. Our view is that at an evening event with a black dress and shoes, this particular style would add a touch of bling without crossing the boundary of good taste. Our review sample would not go to the party, though, as there were distinct pale lines up each leg from ankle to knee. A close look under a strong lens didn’t help us to determine what caused these lines. Lurex can seem to be classy, but we would prefer a classic sheer.

Oroblu Cherie Tights

Those of us with long memories will recall that lace pattern hosiery was very much the in-thing in the mid-1980s. We liked them then, and we want them now too. So how do the current designs stand up? The construction of these tights is quite simple, with straight legs with a basic toe seam, lace pattern from the toe to the plain 2cm deep waistband. A flat central seam and a cotton-lined gusset for comfort and hygiene. Nicely made and of good quality.

The lace pattern is in the style of a climbing rose on an excellent net background. The feel in hand is surprisingly soft. No reason why they should not be soft, of course. Just the way they looked created an expectation.

There are four sizes available, covering most figures and heights from 4’ 9” to 5’11”. Our friends at UKTights stock all four sizes. There is a choice of 1 colour; cream. The sizing is accurate with enough stretch to go a little beyond the suggested sizing; at least in length, the panty is less generous than the legs. Fit is perfect, a significant improvement on the 1980s design, when lacy tights meant sagging at knee and ankle and regular pulling up.

The lace background to the design is far more apparent on the leg, but if you are a few feet away, the laciness gives way to a slight shine. The lace look is not for everyone, and cream is not the most flattering colour if your legs are a little on the heavy side, but we like these tights. Perfect as part of a fashionable summer outfit, ideal as bridal hosiery and limited edition, you shouldn’t find all your friends wearing the same.

Oroblu Annis Lurex Tights

We did a bit of a double-take when we started to read the description of these tights. Oroblu is synonymous with class, quality, sophistication, and up to the minute design. Lurex, on the other hand, well, it just isn’t. That said, Lurex (metallic fibre) is making a comeback in hosiery. Is far more subtle ways than it was used in the past.

Indeed, when you take these tights from the packet, you can feel the roughness that the metallic fibres add, but it is not unpleasant, just noticeable. Visually the effect is quite subtle too, almost lost in the pattern out of direct light. Only above the patterned legs in the plain panty is the large proportion of Lurex thread evident.

Construction is simple with straight legs, flat seams and a gusset in the boxer style panty. The gusset is unlined and contains metallic fibre, so these are perhaps not tights to wear next to the skin in your most intimate areas. There is just one colour available and three sizes, small, medium and a combined large/extra large.

Despite the 11% Lycra, there isn’t much lateral stretch in the legs; metallic fibre is unknown for its stretch properties! This means you may have to adapt your usual method for putting on tights to suit. Lengthways the stretch is more than adequate, an L/XL comfortably coping with a slim to athletic 34″ leg. The sizing is accurate, but the design appears optimised for the taller, thinner woman.

Fit is excellent except in the toe where we found there we could not quite seem to get the seam and material sat perfectly comfortably. The floral design is less dramatic than the picture above suggests. The Lurex, on the other hand, is more apparent, although not in a bad way. Lit from the side and particularly if you are moving, the copper coloured threads shimmer into view, sparkle briefly and merge back into the underlying brown material. Only in stronger light does the Lurex become too much. But as these are very much tights for the evening and night, that is not a problem.

Oroblu has managed to use Lurex and still stay on the right side of the line between good and bad taste. These well made eye-catching tights will undoubtedly get you noticed.

Oroblu Active Legs 70 Tights

As we write this review, there is 8” of snow on the ground outside, and it is -12C, not the sort of weather we expect in Cheshire, even in January. So no surprise that the request today was for some lovely opaque tights. 70 denier seemed just the thing, but when we looked closely at the packet, we got two surprises; firstly, the picture looks like a classic sheer, and secondly, we noticed that these are graduated support tights. 4 sizes are covering all shapes and sizes from a very petite 4’9” and 100lbs to a statuesque 5’11 and 185lbs. We tested size III, Large.

First impressions were confusing. Light soft, and sheer. Yes sheer! Only the high leg control panty looks even close to 70 denier. The toes are lightly reinforced, and the legs are shaped at the heel. The panty is finished with flat seams and a cotton-lined gusset. The waistband is deep and soft and promises a high degree of comfort.

The first clue that there is anything out of the ordinary here is the size of the feet. Unstretched, they look to be sized for a child. When you try to put your feet into these tights, you get your second and final clue. These are serious support tights, and you need to allow plenty of time to put them on.

Once on, the compression is very obvious at the ankle but less so elsewhere. The fit is excellent, and the sizing quite generous. However, by using all the available stretch and strength to get into a size that is a little small for you, you get a lot more of that compression. The control top smoothes rather than shapes.

If you take care while dressing, the look of these tights is that of a perfectly even coloured semi-opaque of about 40 denier. There is even some sheen on the finish.

What Oroblu has done here is give you a top-quality, smart-looking semi-opaque that happens to provide fantastic support to your legs, perfect if you are on your feet a lot. Not quite the cozy 70 denier we were looking for today, but a real winner that we highly recommend.

Oroblu Active Legs Revolution 40 Tights

We were taken by the design of these tights and how great the black colour looks with red that we entirely overlooked the fact that they are support tights. And that raised the question, “why is it that support tights are generally plain?”

These 40 denier tights offer graduated compression, strong at the ankle and almost none in the panty. Four sizes are covering from 4’9” to 5’11” and up to 187lbs (85kg).

Construction is exactly what you would expect from a premium brand such as Oroblu. Shaped legs, flat seams in the panty, cotton lined gusset and sheer or patterned to the waist. You can feel the graduated compression you prepare to put these tights on. It is solid at the ankle. The compression and the need to get the lines perfectly straight mean you have to take your time to work these tights up your leg.

The effort is worth it; the design looks excellent, particularly in black. Our test pair came in nude. The design is less evident in the nude colour but very effective. As Christina said, “very nice, makes standard opaques look a bit dull.” Fit is excellent, and the sizing spot on. There is enough stretch for you to take a few liberties with the sizing and so much strength it is hard to imagine you causing any damage putting them on unless you try.

As fashion tights, we love this style, but they are designed to support, and they are fantastic at that too. Almost as soon as you get the waistband settled in place, you can feel your lower leg starting to feel refreshed, perfect if you are on your feet or sat in an office all day. Hopefully, Oroblu and other brands will take the plunge and make more fashion support tights, and we love these!
