Our Review
5 denier sheer tights are pretty rare, only a few manufacturers have been brave enough to attempt anything so light. Aristoc themselves have had 5 denier styles in the past although their Ultra Sheer style did sometimes change to 8 denier. The problem has bee that 5 denier fibres are by their nature potentially more fragile than heavier weights so fibre quality is paramount and quality fibre costs. Making 5 denier hosiery is a balancing act between cost and strength; in the past we have experienced low price ultra sheer hosiery that simply fell apart when you put it on, Aristoc have opted for the latest Lycra fusion run resisting yarn for this latest style and we would hope that this means quality and strength.
A quick point on denier... 5 denier tights are about 70% of the thickness of 10 denier not half the thickness. If you want the maths explaining let us know!
So what do you get for £12? Well you get a choice of 4 sizes for a start, to fit from 5’0” to 6’0” tall and 38”-54” hips. Proper sizing for real women. (height 152-163cm and hips 97-137cm if you think in cm). We hope this is accurate as the last Ultra Sheer 5 denier style from Aristoc was sized rather short.
It is no surprise that these tights feel very light in the hand, light but not particularly soft. Stretch them over your hand and the lack of softness becomes a smoothness and glossiness that bode very well for look and feel on the leg. The impression of strength makes it hard to believe they are only 5 denier.
Detailing is what you would expect of tights at £12. Sheer to waist, entirely sheer sandal toes, light shaping at the heels, flat seams and a cotton lined gusset. The panty features T-band reinforcement around the gusset, either side of the seams and below the plain waistband. As for fancy features there are none!
Not so much tights as fine coat of gloss for for your legs, the fit is a second think throughout, it really is the only the glossy finish that betrays that you are wearing tights at all and even then the look could be taken for oil or lotion on perfect skin.
Whatever sizing issues Aristoc may have had in the past these are spot on.
Ladder resistant? We really can’t say, we only have the one pair and we have no plans to ruin them!
